Yandex promised to launch production of servers in Russia in a year and a half

The server production plant of the joint venture Yandex, the Lanit group of companies, the computer manufacturer Gigabyte and VTB began to build in the Ryazan region. This was reported to RBC by the press service of Yandex. By the end of 2022, they promised there, the plant will release the first server.

The company clarified that the production complex will appear near Ryazan, in the Ryazansky industrial park on an area of 8 hectares. At the initial stage, the joint venture will invest over 1 billion rubles in production.

“The first phase will include production lines, laboratories and test areas. All operations will be performed here, from surface mounting of components to testing of finished products, ”explained Yandex.

Ryazan was chosen due to transport accessibility, necessary communications and nearby universities, where specialized specialists are trained. In particular, the Ryazan State Radio Engineering University is located there.

The enterprise will produce equipment under the Openyard brand. The commissioning work under the guidance of Gigabyte specialists is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2022, and by the end of it the first server will be released, Yandex promised.

In June, Yandex announced plans to launch production of servers together with Lanit Group, Gigabyte and VTB. The agreement on the creation of a joint venture that will open a server design center was signed by the parties at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The enterprise will manufacture servers, data center storage systems, gateways and smart device components. The first products are planned to be released in 2022.

Yandex also announced that it will install these servers in its data centers, as well as expand the Yandex.Cloud cloud platform with their help. Servers will also hit the market.

According to the consulting company International Data Corporation, at the end of 2020, the server hardware market in Russia was estimated at $ 1.3 billion, the growth for the year was more than 18%, the company noted.
