For the Day of the Russian Language Yandex has prepared a study about words that are used only in certain regions of Russia. The list includes “keska”, “parade”, “shurushki”, “golbets” and others.
Yandex researchers studied data from the Yandex.Zen blog platform, articles and comments from 6 million users from all regions of Russia. Then linguists helped them select the most interesting words.
“Keska” is used in the Kaliningrad region – this word denotes a garbage container. “Shurushkami” things, small items in the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions. Golbets is an underground in the Vologda Oblast, Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Oblast.
