TASS, August 24. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will stop using “Mi” in the names of its new products. This was announced on Tuesday by an official representative of the company.

“Starting in the third quarter of 2021, the Mi product line will be renamed Xiaomi. This change will unify the global presence of our brand and narrow the gap in the perception of the brand and its products,” XDA Developers quoted a company spokesperson as saying.

The Chinese manufacturer will produce gadgets under two names – Xiaomi and Redmi. Under the Xiaomi logo, flagship luxury products will be produced, and under the Redmi logo, products available to a wider audience, in particular young people. “The naming convention for the series of products – Xiaomi and Redmi – will also apply over time to our ecosystem and IoT products,” said a Xiaomi spokesperson.

The Chinese company Xiaomi in June 2021 became the world leader in smartphone sales for the first time. According to the analytical agency Counterpoint Research, its share of sales in the global market was 17.1%. The second place was taken by the South Korean Samsung with a share of 15.7%, the third – by the American company Apple with 14.3%.
