At the presentation of Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, the company also presented a new version of the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition firmware. At the event, Xiaomi said that the new version is only focused on optimization. However, it turned out that the company quietly added a new iOS-style widget system.
While Xiaomi is testing a new widget system in China. The feature became available to users in the latest beta version of App Vault (V5.0.56) and MIUI Gallery (V2.2.21). At the moment, these app versions can only be installed on MIUI devices based on Android 11.
This means that although this feature is part of the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, it can also be experienced by users with devices running the regular MIUI 12.5 beta. However, they will have to join the testing program, for which registration ends on August 27th.
But they will be able to place widgets in sizes 2 × 2, 4 × 2, 4 × 4 and 2 × 3 on the home screen. A widget store has also been added.
As a reminder, Apple introduced widgets with iOS 14.
