Xiaomi will limit smartphone owners using non-original batteries. This is reported by the XDA Developers edition.
Media experts have discovered a new feature in the proprietary Mi Security app numbered 5.6.0. After examining the apk file, the journalists found a mention of the function of limiting the operation of the smartphone's charging. If a non-original battery is installed on the phone, the system will catch the owner of the gadget in unofficial repairs and warn him about it. In particular, a notification will appear “Using unauthorized batteries may cause swelling, overheating and leakage.”
As it turned out, in addition to the message, the system will also slow down the charging speed of the smartphone, switching it to the minimum. This will be done in order to reduce the risk of overheating or fire of a non-original component.
According to the authors, so far the limitation applies only to smartphones Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. At the moment, the new restriction only works in China.
Xiaomi's new measures are probably related to the desire to limit the number of cases of unofficial repairs of smartphones. There have been cases when, due to fast charging, non-original phone batteries failed.
Apple has a similar mechanism for checking the originality of components; the microcontroller built into the iPhone is responsible for its operation. In addition to the battery, the device can detect unofficial displays and cameras.
