Xiaomi has figured out how to hide the camera in a smartphone body. This is reported by the Dutch edition LetsGoDigital.
Journalists of the publication gained access to the company's patent registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The invention involves the use of a “hidden camera” in the brand's smartphones. Its use will save space in the device case and will eliminate cutouts on the gadget screen.
According to the document, the camera consists of several lenses that are directed upward and a reflective element with a system of mirrors. During shooting, the module with mirrors is pulled out of the smartphone body using an electric motor and directed to the side desired for the user. Thus, the camera can take photos and videos in any direction from the device.
Currently, there is no information whether Xiaomi has a working prototype of the device or only claims the rights to the invention.
In the fall of 2020, LetsGoDigital revealed images of a Xiaomi smartphone with a pop-up camera. Judging by the renders, the concept device has two “horns” that fall out of the body and into which the front and main cameras are built. According to journalists, this invention will allow the company to release a completely frameless smartphone.
