Xiaomi has patented a smartphone with a screen wrapped around the body. This is reported by the Dutch edition LetsGoDigital.
The document was found in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). According to the images, the invented smartphone has a flexible display that wraps around the body of the device. Based on the description, this design makes the front and back panels equal in terms of access to the main functions of the device.
The company has registered two concept models. The first has a module with cameras falling out of the top end, the second is a screen element in the style of an iPhone cutout. It houses the front camera, earpiece and sensors. Apparently, Xiaomi is testing both versions of the gadget.
The prototype has a USB-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones. The exact characteristics of the device were not disclosed.
The journalists noticed that outwardly the device resembles the Mi Mix Alpha smartphone, which Xiaomi introduced in 2019. The device had a screen located across the entire area of the device. The company has estimated the phone at 20 thousand yuan, or about 234 thousand rubles.
In the summer of 2020, Xiaomi announced that it was abandoning widespread sales of the Mi Mix Alpha smartphone. The founder of the company, Lei Jun, clarified that the device was a purely research project that achieved its goal.
