WSJ: Instagram causes mental health problems in teenage girls
Instagram causes suicidal thoughts, anorexia, and feelings of inferiority in teenage girls. In addition, the social network contributes to the development of mental disorders. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing a presentation by Facebook, which owns Instagram.
The publication informs that about 40% of girls under the age of 22 feel a sense of inferiority while using Instagram. It is due to the fact that users do not feel beautiful enough and not wealthy in comparison with others.
Additionally, teenage girls experience an increase in anxiety and depression after using Instagram. At the same time, 13% of girls and young women in the UK suffer from suicidal thoughts after viewing publications on a social network, while in the USA the number of such girls is 6%.
The newspaper notes that Facebook is not trying to deal with these problems. Moreover, the company diminishes their importance in public speeches.
Earlier it was reported that Facebook, Telegram and Twitter were fined for refusing to delete posts containing calls to participate in massive uncoordinated events.
