Heavy nuclear missile cruisers of projects 1144 and 1144.2 are the “calling card” not only of the Northern Design Bureau (PKB), but also of the Russian Navy, Director General of the enterprise Andrey Dyachkov told TASS.
According to the head, during the modernization “Admiral Nakhimov”, also called a kind of symbol of the Northern PKB and the Russian Navy, received the most modern weapons, which makes it the strongest combat surface ship in the world. “Foreign experts have noted this more than once in their reports and ratings,” the CEO assures.
According to Dyachkov, Project 22350 frigates, which include, in particular, the lead ship Admiral Gorshkov, should become the basis of the surface groupings of the Russian fleet. According to the head of the Northern PKB, “those ships that are being serially built today, unlike the lead frigate, will have a completely domestic main power plant.”
In April, The National Interest stated that Admiral Nakhimov may “rest in peace.” The publication came to the conclusions about the “death” of the cruiser, which in August 2020 was named by Forbes as the most powerful surface non-aircraft-carrying warship in the world, after analyzing the delays in the delivery of the cruiser to the Russian fleet.
