India's low-cost airline has become the first in the world to allow women travelers the option of not sit next to men on flights.

IndiGo, which will be launched in August this year, will give women the ability to see where other women are sitting in the cabin, allowing them to sit separately from men. Their locations will be displayed in pink. At the same time, men will not be able to see the gender of the passenger sitting next to them, but will only be able to see what seats are available.
In a statement, an IndiGo airline spokesperson explained that this change will allow passengers to travel “more comfortably.” which is to enhance the travel experience for our female passengers. This has been introduced into the market research framework and is currently being piloted in line with our #GirlPower ethos,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This feature ensures that seats reserved by women are visible only during online check-in. It is specifically designed for PNRs with women – both solo and as part of family bookings. We are committed to providing all our passengers with an unparalleled travel experience and this new feature is just one of many steps we take to achieve this goal.”
This change will be introduced on a trial basis first and then rolled out throughout the airline.
This move is a good intention on IndiGo's part as a 2022 FBI study found that most perpetrators of sexual assault or harassment on flights are men.
