World Happiness Ranking 2024: who topped and where Ukraine ranks

by alex

A close connection with nature and a healthy work-life balance contribute to leadership in world happiness rankings.

The annual World Happiness Report has named Finland the happiest country in the world for the seventh year. Ukraine, meanwhile, fell 13 steps over the year and took 105th place in the ranking.

This is stated in the World Happiness Report.

According to the results of the study, Finland remains the leader in terms of happiness in the world. Its neighbors Denmark, Iceland and Sweden also maintain their places in the top ten.

It is noted that leadership in world happiness rankings promotes a close connection with nature and a healthy work-life balance in these countries. At the same time, rising feelings of unhappiness, especially among young people, have caused other Western countries to drop in the rankings.

So, the USA and Germany fell out of the top twenty for the first time since the publication of the first report more than 10 years ago. Their places were taken by Costa Rica and Kuwait at 12 and 13 steps of the ranking, respectively.

The greatest increase in happiness levels was recorded in Serbia, Bulgaria and Latvia. Afghanistan is in last place. Ukraine took 105th place this year, dropping 13 steps compared to last year’s report.

The report is based on data from a global survey of people in more than 140 countries. Countries are ranked by happiness based on their average life scores over the three previous years, in this case 2021 to 2023. Factors taken into account include GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and corruption.

The release of the report coincides with the International Day of Happiness, which is celebrated on March 20.
