What vacancies and salaries are offered to Ukrainians in Lithuania.
More than 25 thousand Ukrainians with temporary protection have already found work in Lithuania . Ukrainians who do not speak the language can find employment in enterprises where they need to do physical work. Thus, there are many vacancies in the food industry, for example, in the production of meat products, as well as in the automotive industry.
Margarita Nesterenko, head of international recruitment at the EWL Migration Platform, spoke about this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine.
“There are many meat factories in Lithuania that work not only for the domestic market, but for export, for example, to neighboring Ukraine and Poland. Therefore, workers are often needed for these factories. This work is mainly related to the packaging of finished products, and not to raw meat , because the enterprises are modern and automated,” says Margarita Nesterenko.
There are also vacancies for foreigners in enterprises producing alcoholic beverages, ice cream, and in the automotive industry.
In particular, at enterprises that produce components for cars, such as electronic cables, salaries start from 750 euros net, that is, “in hand” (30 thousand UAH). And taking into account bonuses and bonuses, the average salary can reach 1000-1300 euros net (40.3-52 thousand UAH).
The minimum salary in Lithuania is 840 euros gross (before taxes), approximately 34 thousand UAH. In Poland, the minimum wage from July 2023 is 796 euros gross (32 thousand UAH).
How to legalize your stay in Lithuania
Temporary protection status in Lithuania can be obtained by citizens of Ukraine who came to Lithuania for the first time due to the outbreak of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine (after February 24, 2022). You can submit an application for temporary protection in advance and remotely on the website of the Lithuanian Migration Department. After this, the institution will issue a registration card, on the basis of which a citizen of Ukraine will be able to find a job.
“An important nuance is that such status can be obtained by a citizen of Ukraine who lived in Ukraine at the time of the full-scale invasion and does not have temporary protection status and a current residence permit or visas in other EU countries,” Nesterenko emphasized.
However, there is an alternative option – to obtain a residence permit in Lithuania for humanitarian reasons. It can be obtained by a Ukrainian who was not in Ukraine before the full-scale invasion, but cannot return home.
Having a temporary protection status or type allows Ukrainian citizens free access to the Lithuanian labor market.
Lithuanian employers encourage Ukrainians to work with various bonuses. For example, with bonuses, they offer free food.
“Lithuania is also one of the few EU countries that provides housing for workers free of charge. This allows Ukrainians to significantly save on costs compared to Western European countries. Although the average salary in Lithuania is lower than payments in countries with richer economies, but monetary incentives from both employers and the state allow Ukrainians to earn more,” explains the expert.
