Luckily, her screams were heard by a neighbor.
A woman in Thailand was rescued after a four-hour python attack.
Metro reports this.
64-year-old Arrom Arunroy was washing dishes in her kitchen after dinner when she felt a sudden pain in her right thigh. She looked down, thinking she had been bitten by a monitor lizard, but saw a massive four-metre python crawling up her leg.
Arrom panicked and tried to pull the python's head away from her. However, she fell, allowing the 20-kilogram beast to wrap itself tightly around her torso.
The woman struggled for more than two hours before her screams were finally heard by a neighbour who called police to her home in Samut Prakan on September 17. By the time officers arrived after 10 p.m., the python had been attacking her for about four hours.
The footage shows the wounded Arroma sitting helplessly on the ground, with the reticulated python squeezing her waist and torso.
Arrom was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where her relatives arrived. The woman said: “I work as a housekeeper at a children's hospital in Bangkok. My husband and I rented this room for many years, but last year he died. Since then, I have been living alone. I was afraid that the python would kill me, so I screamed at the top of my lungs until a passerby heard me. I have never been so scared in my life. The snake just wouldn't let go of me. I am sure that it was waiting for me to die so it could eat me. So I just prayed and did everything I could to stay alive.”
Rescue volunteers provided first aid to the exhausted Arrom. After the attack of suffocation, her hands turned pale and numb, and there were wounds on her leg where the python had sunk its fangs.
The police chief said: “The scene of the incident was a one-story rented apartment with five rooms located next to each other. The fourth room where the victim lived had its door locked. The police and rescuers heard her faint screams from inside, so we broke down the door to rescue her. What we saw shocked us. The elderly woman was being clutched by a huge python, which apparently weighed over 20 kg. We used all the tools we could to try to free her from it. It took us over 30 minutes to get the snake out. It was then released back into the forest.”
The reticulated python is found throughout Thailand, but rarely attacks humans. The species is smaller than in other countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. They are non-venomous, but kill their prey by stunning it with a bite before wrapping themselves around it and crushing it to death.
