43-year-old American Lisa Montgomery will be the first woman to be executed in the United States in 70 years. In 2004, Montgomery strangled a pregnant woman and excised the girl from her womb, according to the Daily Mail.
The day before, the US Department of Justice announced that convicted Lisa Montgomery would be executed on December 8 by lethal injection.
Montgomery committed a heinous murder in Missouri. She strangled a 23-year-old woman in labor and cut an 8-month-old baby out of the womb with a kitchen knife. Montgomery tried to pass the baby off as her own, but she was exposed. The child survived, it turned out to be a girl, now she is 16 years old.
The killer arrived at the home of the victim, 23-year-old Bobby Joe Stinnett, under the pretext of buying a dog. The killer's lawyers argued in court that Montgomery suffered from hallucinations and a mental disorder – a false pregnancy. However, the court did not believe this version.
The last woman to be executed by the US government was Bonnie Hedy. She was taken of her life in a gas chamber in 1953.
Montgomery's execution will be the ninth in the United States this year.
