Senior British government official Sue Gray is investigating illegal parties held at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's residence on Downing Street during the lockdown. It is reported by The Times.
It is clarified that at the time there were strict restrictions in the UK, according to which meetings of two or more people from different families were prohibited, unless it was necessary for work purposes. The results are expected to be announced at the end of next week.
According to the publication, “wine Fridays” often lasted until three in the morning. At the same time, in early December 2020, the residence staff purchased a refrigerator worth about 200 pounds (about 20 thousand rubles), containing 34 bottles. According to the source of the newspaper, after the parties, officials and their assistants often stayed overnight on the sofas, and in the morning the cleaners found empty glasses on the tables. In addition, similar meetings also took place on the eve of the funeral of Prince Philip.
In turn, Boris Johnson apologized to the British public. The prime minister said he came to the party because he wanted to “thank government officials” and left after 25 minutes to return to work.
The party at Johnson's residence became known on December 20, 2021. Then The Guardian published a picture showing Johnson and his wife Carrie sitting at the table. Next to them, without maintaining social distance, there are two more people. In addition, a group of people can be seen on the lawn, gathered around another table with alcohol.
