Window to Europe slammed shut: Serbian airline canceled flights to Moscow

by alex

Until recently, the air carrier Air Serbia gave Russians the opportunity to visit European countries.

Serbskaya Air Serbia canceled all Moscow-Belgrade flights. Passengers who bought tickets began to receive messages about flight cancellations.

This is reported by the Center for Transport Strategies (TsTS).

Earlier, the Serbian air carrier doubled the number of direct flights from Moscow to Belgrade – up to 15 per week.

Serbia is not a member of the EU and has refused to impose sanctions against Russia, and its planes can freely cross EU airspace. This made the Balkan country the only European air corridor left open to Russians.

A wave of indignation over making money on these flights led the President of Serbia to say that Air Serbia, amid Western sanctions against Russia and pressure from the European community will reduce the number of flights to the Russian Federation, returning them to the previous level. But such a move also faced criticism due to enrichment amid the suffering of millions of Ukrainian citizens.

According to the CFTS, on Wednesday, March 16, it was impossible to buy a ticket for Moscow flights on the website of the Serbian carrier.

Recall that after the EU countries closed the airspace for aircraft belonging to Russian companies and even individuals, Russians used Air Serbia, mostly state-owned, to fly to Europe.
