The Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin said that Poland is preparing to accept refugees, despite the lack of real signs of an approaching new wave of asylum seekers.
The Lublin Voivodeship holds monthly meetings of the coordination group for assistance to Ukrainians seeking asylum and is preparing for a possible new wave of refugees. But there are no real signals yet that there will be a large influx of Ukrainians.
The Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin, Oleg Kuts, spoke about this in a commentary to Radio Liberty.
“Before winter, as last year, we pay more attention to this issue. The other day there was such a meeting, we worked out different scenarios. I can say that there is a high level of readiness in the Lublin Voivodeship. There are lists of volunteers who helped our citizens in 2022. This list includes several hundred volunteers who, if necessary, will be gathered and involved in providing assistance.
He clarified that the coordination group on refugee issues from Ukraine includes:
Also, representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have been brought into the coordination group, providing information on various grants that volunteers and charities can apply for in order to receive international financial assistance to support refugees.
According to Oleg Kuts, the possibility of a new wave of refugees from the war in Ukraine depends not only on the situation at the front, but also on the “success” of Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy system facilities, that is, on whether our energy companies will be able to provide the population with uninterrupted heat and electricity in the winter months.
Recall that the day before, Lublin governor Krzysztof Komorski said that refugee reception centers, although currently closed, could be opened within 24-48 hours.
