The diplomat said whether in the near future there is a threat of attack by the Russian occupation army on the territory of NATO countries.
Former Advisor to the Secretary of State USA, former Director for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US National Security Council Matthew Bryza believes that Russia will not dare to attack NATO territory in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania in the near future.
He said this in an interview with Espresso.
He also noted the US readiness to respond aggressively in the event of immediate danger to NATO states.
“I don't see Russia attacking NATO territory in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania in the near future. Russia is stuck in its trenches in Ukraine. Ukraine has successfully pushed the Black Sea Fleet out of its territory, and Putin understands that if he will start military operations on NATO territory, this will bring him into a state of war with the Alliance, and he doesn’t want that,” said Bryza.
He also explained what Russian actions could permanently discredit NATO.
“When I headed a think tank in Tallinn, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, we were worried and studied possible scenarios. These troops would occupy some minor administrative centers, and then Putin would say: “This Russian troops. We have captured NATO territory.” Are you ready for a nuclear war to try to liberate these unimportant buildings? This is what worries me, or what is beyond the limits of the answer under Article 5 in case Russia attacks into NATO territory, which could forever discredit NATO,” concluded Bryza.
Recall that the head of the military committee NATO Rob Bauer said that Europe should forget about peace as a given and prepare for war with Russia.
