The general called the current White House administration's lack of interest in helping Ukraine a “big mistake.”
Former commander of the US Army in Europe, retired US Army Lieutenant General Ben Hodges expressed deep disappointment with the position of the Trump administration on supporting Ukraine. In his opinion, the current US authorities do not show due interest in providing real assistance to Kyiv.
He stated this on air during the telethon in the 1+1 slot.
Disappointment in support and future cooperation
During the broadcast, Godges was asked what advice he would give to the US president if he became his adviser regarding the war in Ukraine and the future of the West in the confrontation with Russia.
“I have to say that I am very disappointed that in the United States, the Trump administration itself is being conducted in this way. I don't think they are interested in continuing to support and really help Ukraine,” Hodges said.
He stressed that despite the support of the US Congress, the actions of the president and his administration look like they do not care at all about helping Ukraine. Godges expressed hope that he is wrong in his conclusions, but from everything he sees, he concludes that President Trump has no interest in standing side by side with Ukraine.
At the same time, the general noted that the president often changes his mind, and expressed hope that at the upcoming NATO summit, European leaders will be able to convince him of the importance of not only supporting Ukraine, but also the role of the United States in Europe.
White House Strategic Mistake
However, Ben Hodges remains less than optimistic about the actions of the American administration. He emphasized that European countries, “in particular Germany, Sweden and others,” continue to provide support to Ukraine. He believes that this assistance will continue to some extent, but it is not enough to truly fully replace American support.
“There is no good news for you in this regard. I see that the Trump administration is simply overlooking an unnecessary error,” Hodges concluded.
Recall that Godges explained how Ukraine can effectively break Russia's strategy. He noted strategic strikes on the Russian energy sector and strengthening air defense.
