Even the plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where fighter aircraft are produced, admitted that the Su-35 did not show the expected results in combat conditions.
Russian fighters of the so-called “fourth generation ++” Su-35, approved by Russian propaganda, showed quite mixed results during the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian military has cleared Russia's fleet of combat aircraft. That is, they are not suitable for real battles at the front.
The Army Recognition reviewers came to this conclusion.
As noted, the Russian defense industry positions the Su-35 as a unique fighter. In practice, it is classified as “fourth generation ++”. You can compare it with the American F-15EX Eagle II. Some even compare it to F-35 aircraft.
How these planes performed in the war in Ukraine
During the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian Su-35s were shot down several times. Ukrainian defenders destroyed five planes last November, and two more earlier this year. We hit them with a Patriot launcher.
Even the plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where fighter aircraft are produced, admitted that the Su-35 did not show the expected results in combat conditions.
As part of this “self-fall,” the Russian PKS were forced to adjust the tactics of their use. The occupiers focused on long-range strikes against Ukrainian targets, using the aircraft's capabilities to attack beyond the range of air defense systems.
However, there is no need to reduce the fighter's capabilities either. The Su-35 is a hybrid of fourth and fifth generation technologies, which makes it unique and difficult to manufacture and operate. However, given reports of the aircraft's unsatisfactory performance in combat conditions, many states began to reconsider their plans to acquire it.
Recall that Russia has declared F-16 fighters and their airfields outside Ukraine a “legitimate target” for the armed forces if these aircraft carry out combat missions.
