Russian authorities traditionally make strange statements.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin increasingly expresses an anti-Israeli position and deepens the justification for Iranian aggression.
This is the conclusion reached by experts from the Institute for the Study of War, having analyzed the statements of the Russian authorities regarding the murder of the head of the Hamas Politburo Ismail Ghaniya.
In particular, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Israel launched the attack that killed Ghaniya in Tehran in order to disrupt attempts to establish peace in the Middle East.
And the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that it “strongly condemns” the murder of Ghaniya and emphasized that the murder occurred during his visit to Tehran for the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Russian Foreign Ministry did not directly accuse Israel, but stated that “the organizers of this political murder” were aware of the “dangerous consequences” that Ghaniya's death would have for the entire region.
“Russia's decision to publicly accuse Israel's efforts to destabilize the prospects for peace in the Middle East and indirectly threaten Israel with “dangerous consequences” demonstrates Russia's growing willingness to publicly align itself with Iran amid deepening Russian-Iranian military cooperation, ISW notes.
Analysts point out that Putin has significantly stepped up information operations aimed at justifying Iranian aggression against Israel.
A Palestinian terrorist group has informed Hamas that one of its leaders, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed on the night of July 31 in Tehran.
The Arab TV channel Al Mayadeen claims that a missile strike from another country hit the house where Haniyeh was, but The official cause of his death has not yet been announced.
The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting in New York over the murder of Ismail Haniyeh.
Iran reportedly invited the discussion of this issue by sending a request to the UN Secretary General and the Permanent Mission of Russia, which holds the presidency of the Security Council in July.
Security Council members Russia, Algeria and China supported Tehran's request. Moscow and Beijing condemned the liquidation of the ideological leader of Hamas.
