Hundreds of people, unaware of the attack plans, found themselves in Israeli territory only to take part in the robbery and abuse of captured Israelis.
The Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 was a cold-blooded massacre, not an out-of-control military operation.
Journalists from the German publication Bild and the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom came to this conclusion after analyzing statements from survivors, Israeli military and secret service employees, as well as documents found in the possession of Hamas militants.
In particular, as it turned out, the instructions given to the militants by one of the senior Hamas figures, Abu Sahib, several hours before the attack, contained a clause on the need to broadcast live attacks on Israeli kibbutzim.
As explained by Hebrew University of Jerusalem professor Danny Orbach, this indication indicates that during this attack it was not just about killing people, but about demonstrating the dominance of one group over another through torture and mutilation.
Israeli intelligence services have established that the assault on the border fence with pickup trucks and the first attacks on villages and kibbutzim were carried out by fighters from the elite Hamas Nukhba unit.
But after that, a “spontaneous mobilization” began, the impetus for which was the call announced in the mosques of the Gaza Strip by the head of the military wing of Hamas, Mohammed Deif. He appealed to everyone who “can pick up a gun, a knife or an ax” to join the invasion.
Thus, hundreds of people, unaware of the attack plans, ended up in Israeli territory only to take part in the robberies and abuse of the captured Israelis. Among the attackers, as a source told Bild, were even 12-year-old children.
At the same time, Hamas promised to reward those who take hostages in Israel and deliver them to the Gaza Strip.
Recall that on October 7, 2023, militants of the Palestinian group Hamas from the Gaza Strip fired rockets at southern and central Israel. Militant forces entered southern Israel in a surprise attack.
