Russia will take a step toward negotiations only if it cannot continue the war.
On Wednesday, June 26, a Russian government plane flew to the USA. This information sparked talk about allegedly preparing “peace negotiations” with the aggressor, which would force Ukraine to make concessions to end the war. In particular, the media reported that the Russian Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev was on board the plane, who was supposedly supposed to convey the text of the peace agreement to the American government.
People's Deputy from the Servant of the People, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Bogdan Yaremenko believes that if the Russians were really ready for some kind of negotiations, they would not send the head of the Verkhovna Rada on such an important mission Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the relevant authorized persons who can negotiate and have experience.
He stated this on the air of the project “Topic with Moseichuk” on the YouTube channel of Natalya Moseichuk.
Yaremenko noted that a step towards real negotiations with Russia's side would mean that it could no longer fight the war. But so far there are no such signs.
“This looks very implausible… This looks like a way of testing Ukraine’s information position for what we are ready to leak,” Yaremenko noted.
According to him, any such step on the part of the Russian Federation would mean that Russia has reached a state where it is not ready to continue fighting. But this is not so.
“As a person who returned from Kupyansk tonight, I will say that Russia is ready to fight. And Russia is fighting. And in order to start any negotiations with them about peace, we will still have to fight enough. And bear victims, to bear losses,” the people’s deputy emphasized. will not happen now.
“In my opinion, Russia is trying to conduct offensive operations along the entire front line. It understands that we have high expectations from receiving new types of weapons, and that this can change the situation on the battlefield. Therefore, it now needs to think about consolidating some military success,” the people’s deputy noted.
He added that the resources of Russians “are also not limitless,” despite the fact that they are many times greater than those of Ukraine. But internal problems are growing in the Russian Federation, one way or another connected with the attack on Ukraine.
“They see and understand all this. The situation in Russia is not so rosy and bravura. But this now convinces them not that it is necessary to stop [the war – ed.], but that for now they can, they need to achieve more. In order to start negotiations from a stronger position,” Yaremenko noted.
He also added that all the talk about negotiations on Russian terms is only “playing along with Russian propaganda and Russian information influences.”
“We are dealing in this situation with a fake, with an information operation. Despite the fact that obviously a person with the last name Kolokoltsev exists, and he could fly to the United States bypassing sanctions… But it is unlikely that he carried out any negotiations,” said the people’s deputy.
He also added that he is absolutely confident that there are contacts between Americans and Russians. But the public statements that Russia makes cannot be so different from what is being done behind the scenes.
“That is, the Russians are publicly demonstrating complete readiness [to continue the war – ed.]. Moreover, Putin and the clique around him are driving their country to war, to death. And this in no way correlates with the negotiations” , – summed up Bogdan Yaremenko.
