Why are there no eco-friendly shoe covers?
Shoe covers are polyethylene, which decomposes in a landfill for hundreds of years. Why not come up with something more environmentally friendly?
“The polyethylene and chloropolyethylene film used for making disposable shoe covers for visitors can be recycled,” Dmitry Nesterov, expert of the Zero Waste project of Greenpeace Russia, told AiF. – But for this it is necessary to remove the rubber band from them, which is problematic. The most optimal solution here is considered to be the transition to reusable shoe covers – either silicone or made of a special fabric that resembles a raincoat. Reusable overshoes made of thick soft fabric are already used in museums to preserve valuable parquet floors, in operating rooms. And, for example, in Irkutsk, some medical centers, beauty salons, fitness clubs, kindergartens, etc. have switched to reusable shoe covers. “
