The number of deaths due to the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the world will soon reach 100 thousand every week. Mike Ryan, an expert at the World Health Organization (WHO) on emergency situations, called for this to be prepared, reports the Reuters news agency.
“The epidemiological situation is now dynamic and different in different regions,” he said at a meeting of WHO managers. He noted that North and South America together account for more than 47 percent of deaths, and their number is growing. In Europe, mortality is stabilizing – albeit at a high level, Ryan said.
Earlier on January 18, it was reported that the head of the WHO, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, warned the world that he was on the verge of a moral disaster: because of how unevenly vaccines are distributed between countries, many people are at risk of death in the poorest countries.
