WHO starts tracking Russian strain of coronavirus infection

The World Health Organization has included the Russian strain of coronavirus AT.1 on the list for further monitoring, RIA Novosti reports.

This SARS-CoV-2 mutation was detected in Russia in January 2021. WHO began tracing the strain on 9 June.

The organization lists mutations previously recorded in the United States, Brazil, the Philippines, Indonesia, Colombia and the United Kingdom.

The monitoring list includes strains of SARS-CoV-2 with genetic changes that may affect the characteristics of the virus and pose a potential danger in the future.

So far, there are 15 SARS-CoV-2 variants on the list, three of which were previously on the list of strains of interest under the names Epsilon, Zeta and Theta.

WHO has listed four strains of SARS-CoV-2 as “of concern”: alpha (British), beta (South African), gamma (Brazilian) and delta (Indian).

Earlier it became known that thanks to vaccination, the situation with coronavirus in Moscow is gradually stabilizing. Incidence is declining after record highs. Today, just over six thousand new cases have been registered in the capital. This allowed the authorities to soften the antiquated measures.
