WHO started monitoring

The World Health Organization (WHO) has included the “Russian” strain of coronavirus infection on its monitoring list. This is stated on the website of the organization.

The “Russian” variant AT.1 was listed on June 9, 2021. It was first recorded in Russia back in January of this year.

In such a list, WHO includes those strains of coronavirus that can change the properties of the infection and pose a potential threat. However, there is not enough information about the “Russian” strain, and it is not included in the list of strains of increased interest, where the British, South African and other variants of coronavirus infection are located.

Earlier, the director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, said that over four million people have died from coronavirus infection since the beginning of the pandemic. Gebreyesus noted that in reality there may be more victims of the infection. He added that many countries where vaccinations are successful are lifting restrictive measures as if the pandemic was over.
