The World Health Organization (WHO) spoke about the scale of the spread of the “British” strain of coronavirus, which may be 70 percent more infectious. The mutation has already been found in 41 countries and territories around the world, reports TASS.

As of January 5, VOC-202012/01, originally identified in the UK, has been found in 40 more states, territories and areas. It is noted that the new strain has been identified in five of the six WHO regions.

On January 4, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the introduction of a third national quarantine in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic. He stated that the new strain of coronavirus is spreading at an “alarming rate.”
