The World Health Organization (WHO) does not have information that vaccination reduces the risk of coronavirus transmission. This is stated in the recommendations of the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization on the use of Moderna.
The organization stressed that priority vaccination of travelers would be contrary to the principles of equality, since the number of vaccines is currently extremely limited. “Due to this, as well as the lack of evidence that vaccination reduces the risk of transmission, WHO does not recommend vaccination of travelers against COVID-19,” the document says. The WHO stressed that the exceptions are persons at risk.
However, it is noted that the organization may change its recommendations as the number of vaccines available increases. “Since there is no evidence yet of the effect of the vaccine on the transmission of the virus, it is necessary to continue to adhere to non-pharmaceutical measures [to contain the virus], including wearing masks, physically distancing, washing hands, and so on,” the organization said.
There are several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. So, in Russia two vaccines are registered: “Sputnik V” and “EpiVacCorona”. On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. The US also began inoculating the population with drugs from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna. Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines have been approved in the UK.
