The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a record number of coronavirus cases in a week. More than 4.3 million cases have been identified worldwide, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the organization, from December 7 to 13, 4,329,927 new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded. During this period, 75,038 patients died.
The WHO added that the “main burden of the pandemic” is shared by the regions of America and Europe. They accounted for 85 percent of new cases and 86 percent of new deaths, reports TASS. Moreover, in North and South America, the increase in incidence is still continuing, while in Europe the situation is stabilizing.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 73.2 million people have been infected with the coronavirus during the entire pandemic. More than 1.6 million of them died, about 41.4 million were cured.
