The Organization explained that no state should be “stigmatized” for discovering new variants of COVID-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) refused to call the AT.1 coronavirus strain “Russian”, which was first detected in our country in January 2021.

“WHO is tracking variant AT.1, included in the list for further monitoring (Alert for Further Monitoring), which was first detected in Russia. However, we would not call it the “Russian version”. No country should be stigmatized for identifying and reporting options, ”the organization’s press service said in response to a TASS inquiry about this type of virus.

Recall, as the website kp.ru wrote, on the eve of the WHO announced that it had included AT.1 in its monitoring list, in which it adds coronavirus strains that can change the properties of the infection and pose a potential threat. However, there is still too little information about the “Russian” version, and it is not included in the list of strains of increased interest, where the British, South African and other varieties of coronavirus infection are located.
