The death toll from the coronavirus in the world could reach 2 million. This was stated by Michael Ryan, director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Health Emergencies Program, TASS reports.
“In nine months, a million people have died from coronavirus infection. It is possible that it will take another nine months before the vaccine appears, and it is possible that a million more people will die during this time, ”a WHO representative predicted one of the scenarios. At the same time, he noted the opportunity to do a lot to prevent this.
Earlier, the WHO said that the flu shot will not save people from COVID-19, but it will still help in the fight against the pandemic, as it will help take the additional burden off national health systems.
An outbreak of pneumonia COVID-19 caused by a new type of coronavirus was first recorded in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. On March 11, WHO declared a pandemic.
