The WHO (World Health Organization) has added the Colombian strain of coronavirus to the list of mutations of interest. It was designated by the Greek letter “mu”.
This strain was first discovered in Colombia in January 2021. Its danger is that mu has mutations that could make it more resistant to vaccines.
So far, cases of infection with this strain have been recorded in South America and Europe. At the moment, they do not exceed 0.1% of the total number of infections, writes The Guardian.
Strains “eta”, “iota”, “kappa” and “lambda” belong to the same group of interest. Four more mutations are classified by WHO as “of concern” – these are “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma” and “delta”. They are considered the most dangerous because they spread more easily and cause more severe illness.
Earlier in the center “Vector” said that there is no South African strain of coronavirus in Russia. Moreover, its spread in our country is unlikely due to the dominance of the “delta” strain.
