The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, warned that the next few months of the pandemic will be very difficult. He announced this on Friday, October 23, at a briefing in Geneva, TASS reports.

“We are at a critical crossroads in the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. The next few months will be very difficult, and some countries are on a dangerous trajectory, ”said the head of WHO.

Too many countries are facing soaring increases in COVID-19 cases, he said, leaving hospitals already exhausted or close to doing so. Ghebreyesus called on state leaders to take steps to prevent rising deaths, the collapse of health systems and the closure of schools.

On October 23, WHO recorded a record increase in new cases of coronavirus infection in the world per day. According to the organization, 423,819 patients with coronavirus were registered in the last 24 hours.

An outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia caused by a novel coronavirus was first recorded in December 2019 in Wuhan. On March 11, WHO announced that the situation could be characterized as a pandemic.
