Heads of state should accelerate the spread of coronavirus vaccines and ensure that the majority of the population is vaccinated. This opinion was made by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus. His statement was made during the briefing.

The head of the organization called for vaccinating most of the world's population – at least 70 percent – by July 1, 2022. Gebreyesus suggested that this would allow us to survive the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, earlier he expressed concern about the rate of spread of the omicron-strain. He stressed that the mutation spreads faster than other variants of the coronavirus and poses a danger to those vaccinated. Ghebreyesus also called for the cancellation of mass celebrations to protect against the omicron strain.
