World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus predicted an end to the coronavirus pandemic in 2022. He announced this at a briefing at the headquarters of the organization in Geneva.

“2022 must be the year that the pandemic ends,” Gebreyesus said.

He stressed that such an outcome of events will be possible only if 70 percent of the world's population is vaccinated against coronavirus by the middle of next year.

Earlier, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia, Melita Vujnovich, suggested that the omicron strain of the coronavirus could become a “live vaccine” against COVID-19 and help defeat the pandemic. She noted that such an outcome is possible, but stressed that at the moment it is too early to talk about it, since there are not enough patients with omicron.

At the same time, she saw signs of Russia reaching a plateau in COVID-19 and a change in the epidemic situation. She noted that, despite reaching a plateau, the incidence rate in the country is very high, “close to 30 thousand cases per day.”
