The active spread of new strains of coronavirus infection, including the “Indian” mutation of the disease, as well as the rapid lifting of sanitary restrictions, can have very serious consequences for people who have not yet been vaccinated against coronavirus. This was announced on Monday, June 7, by the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus during a briefing.

“With increased global transmission of new coronavirus variants of concern, including the Delta strain of infection, lifting restrictions too quickly could be disastrous for those who have not yet been vaccinated against the disease,” he said.

As reported by the website kp.ru, earlier the WHO decided to name new strains of coronavirus with the letters of the Greek alphabet in order to make the system for naming mutations simple, and the names of mutations easy to pronounce and remember. So, the “Indian” strain of the coronavirus will be called “delta”, and the “British” – “alpha”.
