The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus commented on the sex scandal involving his subordinates. This concerns allegations of sexual harassment by WHO staff in the Congo during the fight against the Ebola epidemic, Reuters reports.
“We were deeply outraged reading these reports. We will not tolerate such behavior from our employees or partners, ”said Gebreisus. He promised to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and punish those responsible.
Earlier it became known about the suspicions of the WHO staff: while in the Congo, they forced into sexual relations local residents who were trying to find work in the organization. More than three dozen women reported being bullied, and some of them became pregnant as a result.
On July 20, a month after WHO congratulated Congo on defeating the epidemic, it became known that the number of cases was on the rise again.
