Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in the Chinese city of Wuhan to investigate the origin of the coronavirus, TASS reports.
A Scoot airline from Singapore landed at Wuhan International Airport at 11:05 local time (06:05 Moscow time). The arrived specialists need to go through a 14-day quarantine, at which time they will consult with Chinese video communication specialists.
Earlier, the head of the WHO, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, reported that the organization's experts were faced with a denial of entry to China to investigate the origin of the coronavirus. He accused the Chinese authorities of not obtaining the necessary permits for the experts to arrive in China. The head of the WHO said that he had already discussed the problem with the Chinese authorities and received assurances that Beijing would speed up the procedure for issuing the necessary permits.
An outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia caused by a novel coronavirus was first recorded in December 2019 in Wuhan. On March 11, WHO announced that the situation could be characterized as a pandemic. According to the latest data, more than 92 million people are infected in the world.
