WHO declares emergency over monkeypox

Due to the increase in the incidence of monkeypox in the world, the World Health Organization declared an emergency.

So, today a day already in 75 countries of the world more than 16 thousand cases of the disease were registered. Five people have died from monkeypox.

This was announced by the head of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a meeting of the organization.

“I have decided that the global outbreak of monkeypox is a public health emergency , which is of international importance,” said Ghebreyesus.

According to him, in Europe declared a high risk of the disease, and in other regions – moderate.

The head of the WHO stressed that there is a clear risk of further international spread of monkeypox.

A state of emergency has been declared for a number of reasons:

Recall that monkeypox is a smallpox-like disease caused by viruses of the poxvirus family. This disease has an incubation period of up to 21 days. The first symptoms include: fever, headaches, muscle aches, backaches, swollen lymph nodes, frost, exhaustion.
