The World Health Organization (WHO) has ruled that coronavirus deaths are unacceptable. This was stated by the head of the WHO health emergency program Mike Ryan, reports “Interfax”.
According to Ryan, COVID-19 is not retreating: every week 1.8-2 million people get sick with coronavirus, 40-50 thousand deaths are recorded. He called such numbers “an extremely high rate” and, despite the decrease in the percentage of deaths of infected citizens, the mortality rate cannot be considered acceptable.
The specialist added that the increase in mortality on a global scale is not intense, but this hides the fact that “in some countries at the regional level, there is a significant increase in cases.” He predicted a long path for the coronavirus pandemic to the world.
On September 16, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the coronavirus outbreak was spiraling out of control. According to him, at the moment the pandemic is “the number one threat” to global security, and soon humanity will overcome the milestone of a million deaths as a result of the spread of the virus.
As of September 18, over the entire time of the pandemic, 30.3 million people were infected with the coronavirus. Of these, 948 thousand have died, 20.6 million have recovered. Most of the infected are in the United States, India, Brazil, Russia and Peru.
