The World Health Organization (WHO) has welcomed the publication in the medical journal The Lancet about the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. This was stated by the representative of the organization in Russia Melita Vujnovich on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”, RIA Novosti reports.
The new data speaks to the quality of the vaccine, he said. The WHO added that the organization is negotiating with various manufacturers of vaccines against coronavirus, including Russia, on the provision of drugs to countries in need.
The day before, the Lancet magazine published data that the results of the third phase of Sputnik V's tests demonstrated 91.6 percent effectiveness against coronavirus. 19,866 people took part in testing the vaccine.
The Kremlin noted that the results of the third phase of clinical trials of Sputnik V, published in The Lancet, convincingly demonstrate its reliability and effectiveness. According to the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov, the results confirmed the justification for the accelerated registration of the vaccine in Russia.
Sputnik V is the first registered Russian vaccine against coronavirus, it was created on the basis of another adenovirus in which the coronavirus gene is embedded. When it enters cells, it forms proteins in them – they cause immunity and promote the development of antibodies.
