The woman admitted that she was not married and was delirious when she was rescued.

Indian police have finally learned what happened to 50-year-old American Lalita Kayee Kumar, who was found chained to a tree in the middle of a forest in the state of Maharashtra on July 27 West India.

BFMTV.com reports on this.

The woman who was found claimed that she spent 40 days in the forest after her Indian husband chained her up and left her to die a slow death. Investigators questioned the woman's version of events, believing that she could not have survived that long without food and water.

According to police chief Saurabh Agarwal, Lalita Kayi Kumar gave a different version of events when questioned by the police. In particular, she admitted that she was not actually married, and that she probably talked about her husband because she was suffering from hallucinations when she was found.

According to Indian law enforcement, the American woman found herself in a difficult situation in India: her visa was expiring and she was left without money. In desperation, she decided to chain herself to a tree with a padlock.

The police also learned that Lalita was born in Massachusetts, was a ballerina, and practiced yoga. About 10 years ago, she came to India to study yoga and meditation.

According to the director of the psychiatric hospital where the American woman is, her health is gradually improving thanks to treatment.

“She eats, walks and exercises,” he told reporters.

Recall that a shepherd passing by an Indian forest saved an American woman who was chained to a tree and left to die. The woman was very exhausted and begged for help.
