Who can replace Putin: The Washington Post analyst's forecast

The future successor of the current owner of the Kremlin will not change modern Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin created a system of power in which he can rule in the Kremlin for life. As American analyst Adam Taylor noted, his style of government does not imply rivals.

This is stated in the publication of a political expert for The Washington Post.

Does Putin have any rivals

He noted that Putin physically eliminated everyone who interfered with his leadership, among them – who recently died in a penal colony in the Arctic Circle Alexey Navalny, shot in Moscow in 2015 Boris Nemtsov and even staged a riot Evgeniy Prigozhin, who allegedly crashed on a plane in August 2023.

Taylor calls Putin's nominal rivals in the current presidential election “worthless people who do not have state permission” – the only two anti-war candidates Ekaterina Duntsova and Boris Nadezhdin were not allowed to vote for technical reasons.

Does the owner of the Kremlin have a successor

The analyst calls Putin's most famous follower Dmitry Medvedev, who holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

“Medvedev served as Russia's president from 2008 to 2012, while Putin served as prime minister—a 'tandem' leadership style designed to help Putin avoid term limits,” Taylor recalled.< /p>

However, Medvedev’s current role, in his words, has been reduced to the “court clown” of the Kremlin, “who can be used to make Putin more moderate.”

Nikolay Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, is considered very influential, but he remained largely behind the scenes until the invasion of Ukraine, when his insidious rhetoric has made him a prominent voice. The governor of Russia's Tula region Alexey Dyumin is also not well known in the West, and his past as Putin's former personal bodyguard who received high military positions has led to speculation that he might be the favorite candidate,” Taylor argues.

At the same time, he recalled the words of Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov that the future successor of the current owner of the Kremlin will not change modern Russia. Speaking about what the next president of the Russian Federation should be like, he said: “The same. Or different, but the same.”

Recall that military expert, retired SBU Colonel Mikhail Pritula believes that organizing an assassination attempt on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is very difficult, however, possible.
