The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that there has been an increase in coronavirus incidence over the past week after six weeks of continuous decline. Writes about this TASS.
More than 2.6 million new cases were reported last week, up 7 percent from the previous week, according to the organization.
The increase in infections is associated with an increase in incidence in the Eastern Mediterranean, where the increase was 14 percent, Southeast Asia (9 percent) and the Americas (6 percent).
Possible reasons include the continued spread of coronavirus variants, relaxation of restrictive measures and compliance fatigue.
At the same time, the number of deaths continues to decline. So, for the week from 22 to 28 February, 2,658,823 new cases and 63,477 deaths were recorded.
Earlier, the head of the European department of the WHO, Hans Kluge, announced the first signs that the increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Europe has resumed. According to him, four of the ten countries in the world with the highest number of cases of COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours are located in the European region.
