WHO announced acute shortage of medicines in Afghanistan

by alex

Afghan medical facilities are running out of supplies of medicines. This was announced by the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Afghanistan Ahmed Al-Mandhari. His statement was published on the organization's website.

Also, due to increased internal migration in the country, unrest in the vicinity and inside the Kabul airport, the risk of new outbreaks of COVID-19 among Afghans is growing. If Afghanistan is overwhelmed by a new wave of coronavirus, the necessary drugs from the WHO stockpile will be enough for a maximum of a week.

Al-Mandhari said that in the first weeks after the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) seized power in Afghanistan, many hospitals temporarily stopped serving patients. Now the work of medical institutions has been restored, the Taliban have allowed medical personnel to return to their duties. Many women also continued to work, but some of them are afraid to leave their homes.

Now the UN continues to restore the work of its humanitarian mission to assist Afghanistan. For this, representatives of the organization get in touch with the leaders of the Taliban. However, many of them are now outside Afghanistan, which complicates the negotiation process.
