The White House has promised to impose sanctions on Russia within weeks. This was stated by the press secretary of the administration of the current president Jen Psaki, quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Within weeks, not months,” answered Psaki when asked by journalists about when new sanctions from Washington against Moscow are expected.
According to her, the “Russian question” includes several components. Thus, Psaki listed Moscow's alleged “interference” in the elections and the hacker attack, as well as the awards that were allegedly offered for the murder of American soldiers in Afghanistan. The US administration continues to analyze all these aspects, she concluded.
Moscow has previously repeatedly denied accusations on all these counts.
Earlier in February, the head of the US European Command, General Tod Walters, said that the Russian Federation, despite the economic sanctions imposed on it, remains a threat to the existence of the United States and Europe. He accused Moscow of “destabilizing actions” and the militarization of the Arctic. Ensuring US security requires a global effort, he said.
