White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed that the United States intends to impose sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
A spokeswoman for the US administration indicated that restrictions are being introduced after a similar decision by the European Union (EU).
“The US will join them in imposing sanctions on President Putin, Foreign Minister Lavrov and members of the national security team,” Psaki said.
Earlier, the representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, said that the foreign ministers of the countries of the organization decided to impose sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to the head of European diplomacy, all options for new restrictions, including Russia's disconnection from SWIFT, “remain on the table.”
