The administration of US President Joe Biden approved the plan of the Pentagon, which involves the possible evacuation of American citizens from the territory of Ukraine. It is reported by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the plan, the military personnel of the 82nd Airborne Division, who are currently stationed in Poland, will begin to create checkpoints, tent camps and other temporary facilities on the border between Poland and Ukraine. It is assumed that in the event of a Russian attack, this will allow for the efficient and rapid evacuation of American citizens.

According to the WSJ, the White House decided to prepare in advance for a possible evacuation in order to avoid the situation that developed in August last year in Afghanistan. “It was a messy exit. We do not want the same chaos during the evacuation from Ukraine,” said a US Department of Defense spokesman who was one of those responsible for organizing the plan.

There are approximately 30 thousand American citizens on the territory of Ukraine. The US authorities expect that in the event of a full-scale war, a huge flow of refugees will pour out of Ukraine.

On February 8, French Interior Minister Darmanin said that de-escalation in Ukraine could help prevent a migration crisis. He noted that in the event of a Ukrainian-Russian conflict, a wave of “tens or even hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees” will pour into Europe.
