Bargain hunters watch out! Friday, November 27th, is “Black Friday”. Here you can find out where you can really save and where prices are even going up >>>

The price comparison platform idealo.at has analyzed the top 50 online categories based on the sales prices from the previous year. In 46 categories, the average price was actually at least a little cheaper than the average price in October. But the savings vary greatly and some products have even increased in price.

The biggest bargains by far were Playstation 4 games (-18 percent), followed by headphones (-11 percent) and gamepads, televisions and vacuum cleaners (-10 percent each).

Among the top 10 online categories smartphones (-6 percent), smartwatches (-6 percent), televisions (-10 percent), notebooks (-5 percent), headphones (-11 percent), women's fragrances (-4 percent), Vacuum cleaners (-10 percent), sneakers (-7 percent), Lego (-2 percent) and game consoles (-7 percent) could be saved more or less everywhere.

Surprisingly, there were also three top loser categories : game and action figures were eight percent more expensive, ski boots three percent more and men's jackets and coats also three percent more.

In a survey of 1,500 Austrians, the price comparison platform asked that 54 percent are interested in electrical goods. 41 percent would like to buy fashion and accessories, 32 percent would like to buy shoes and sneakers, 27 percent will skip the 'gaming and games' category and 23 percent would like to invest in cosmetics and perfumes.

Among all these categories, on Black Friday last year, the lowest discounts of a maximum of 2 percent, but also some price increases, were to be found in the 'Fashion and Accessories' area.

It is actually very easy to make something look like a bargain, for example by comparing the advertised price with the manufacturer's RRP (recommended retail price). In this case, you often don't even need a real discount to make something look like a bargain.

The same applies if a product is priced a little higher in a short-term period before Black Friday in order to be able to score points with a 'mega bargain' directly on Black Friday.

“We at idealo Austria always recommend comparing prices on our website and not making 'blind purchases' just because something is written with, for example, 'Mega offer: -50 percent'. On idealo.at we always compare the current sales price the average price of the product over the last 90 days “, explains Veronika Bahr, Country Manager Austria.

And further: “In this way we can make a clear statement about the percentage by which a product has been discounted and at the same time compare it with exactly the same product from other suppliers.”
